I agree with SpoiledAngel about self hypnosis. i think it really is a deeper state of meditation.

I have to say though, the thought of it really does worry me, like everyone else, i would feel a little affraid of beeen so deeply relaxed that I would not be able to control it.

How did you make such a strong "confident' decision on something you have never tried?

Would it be better to have an open mind and consider all your options until you have the opportunity to to have a go?
