There is nothing good about smoking. To quit smoking one has to have faith and believe in themselves. Two best ways to quit on smoking are:

- Thinking yourself into a year to future and then imagine that you have given up on smoking. Sit calm and think deep and make a list of all the things that will be different and the benefits that you will see from quiting smoking. While writing it's important to be positive, and not just to use double negatives. For example: Instead of writing 'I will not be in bad health', you should write 'I will be enjoying better health and exercising three times a week'. Well, there are many benefits of not smoking one can think of.

- Another method is try using substitution. It is not necessary to use a substitution since smoking is not any thing important and you don't really have to replace it with something else. But if you feel you need to, then try choosing something healthy and positive, such as going for a walk or run would definitely help.

** if you have suffered any ill effects during a previous attempt to stop smoking then it is advisable that you speak to your own doctor who will help you plan your next attempt.

Hmm.. I don't think substitution would be good. If you were a compulsive smoker and you needed a substitute, then there would be a greater risk of you becoming addicted to your smoking substitute. And as we all know, anything that is in excess is bad. Great tips though. Smile

My dad quit smoking immediately after the doctor convinced him to do so. I think it's really the motivation behind the quitting that matters.

You're wrong. Smoking is actually a nasty, insidious physical AND psychological addiction. Not only is a heavily addicted smoker trying to give up on a nicotine dependency, they're also trying to give up a psychological crutch they've come to depend on.

Trying to break both at once without substituting anything is a sure way to see a smoker back smoking again within a couple days.

Is that how you managed to stop smoking (with the help of your hypnotherapist)?

If substitution helps in quitting smoking, then I guess it is an option. It doesn't mean that it's necessary though. There are a lot of other ways to help you in quitting. Having someone who tries to quit with you helps for example. Or keeping a journal of your "quitting" experience.[/list]

Any option is worth the time to try it. You will never know until you have done it.
