| My interest in hypnosis is that the past two weeks I have had a few sessions with a hypnotherapist to overcome a phobia of thunderstorms, I have found it helpful and thought it would be nice to understand more about it! |

Ah brontophobia. I have enjoyed working with many clients on this issue...
So, how is everything going? What types of techniques it your therapist using?
It would really be interesting to get your full and frank feedback from the prospective of yourself as a client. |

|

| I have finished the hypnotherapy and nlp now as he is sending a self hypnosis cd to reinforce whats been done. He used Peripheral Vision which I found useful as I calms me down quickly! He got me to imagine I was in a cinema that I apparently owned lol and got me to make a movie of a storm in head and I had to change the movie by adding colour, sounds, funny pictures etc. Before had the therapy I got a lot of paranoia, evertime it got cloudy I had panic attacks but after the the techniques he used the paranoia went. The hypnotherapy itself I found relaxing and he was repeatedly saying, you won't be scared of the thunder and lightning and you are successful etc. Now when I look at a storm on the internet it doesn't worry me so much which it did before the sessions. I just hope that when there is a real storm I don't start panicking! |

Great, you should find this very helpful!

Can you explain this in a bit more detail as therapists approach this technique differently.

Yeah this can be a really cool and powerful technique.

Why not really put it to the test? Heck you could even go looking for storms.
One technique that I think is valuable with phobias is to get a recording of a thunder storm and stick it on a loop. Then listen to it for an extended period of time until it makes you bored of it. So it takes you from 'phobic' to 'ok' to 'bored'. This way you minimize the chance of it ever bothering you again. |

| The technique of Peripheral Vision my therapist used is to notice what you are focusing on like a pattern on the lounge curtain and without moving the head, start to expand your vision by looking at the corner of the eyes to see what you can see like you might see you diner table, chairs and books on your left side and your tv, sofa and coffee table on you right side. He mentioned this as disacciasion and said this would make it impossible to run the fear at the same time. After a while of focussing I found things looked blurred as I was looking at things around me! |
