Hello,

I hope you can help me.

I qualified as a Hypnotherapist with the IAH, now known as the IAPH, in 1996 but I only practiced a few months before going back to work..I think I was just too young and immature in general to run my own practice.

Anyway I would like now to do Hypnotherapy part time and I wondered...do I need to retrain or, in theory, can I just set up practice and do further training if I should decide to?

Also, I have moved house quite lot and no longer have my certificate to say that I've passed..do I need to display this for legal and/or insurance purposes?

I have emailed the IAPH a few times and got no response from them so am planning on giving them a call but I just wanted to clarify these points first.

many thanks

Jem

Legally, Jem, you can start practicing.

However, I wouldn't advise it yet...
  • You would need your certificate to get insurance.
  • You would need your certificate to join a hypnotherapy register.
  • I strongly suggest that you update your skills. After all, one of the requirements for most bona fide hypnotherapy registrars is that a practitioner adhere to annual CPD requirements. You will have missed out on 12 years of that.

I'm sure that someone else can add to that.

I hope that helps.

Are you sure on this one?

I have never had an organisation ask for copies of my certificates and I am registered with the GHR and fully insured.

Are you sure? Both the GHR and the BIH wanted to see my certificates before registering me.

The insurance wanted both my certificates and proof that I had registered with the registrar.

    Hey flossygirl,

Let us know how you get on.

What types of issues are you planning on helping clients with when you get back in the saddle?
