They took it down from their site. Well it was either that or a trip to the courts, and no one really wants that!

Was it someone that you know?

No I didn't know them.

I have had two people quite close to me steal content. One of which was actually a business partner.

It is deplorable behavior, but unfortunately it just seems to get worse.

Trust me it is a battle not too.

I have to keep reminding myself that it is only a business. But it is annoying when people steal your hard work and claim credit, then make you google rankings plummet!

Hi Richard

I've had the same issue with my website.

Don't expect the hypnotherapy orgs to do anything... i) they are mostly useless! ii) it is a waste of resources because you don't need them.

Here is correct procedure of quick and easy resolution:
i) Check your content isn't being copied with www.copyscape.com
ii) Send both website owner AND the website hosting company a firm letter with evidence/proof of copyright abuse

- it is usually good to go through the web hosts terms of service - usually they have procedures for reporting abuse. They are legally liable and basically will remove any site that shows evidence of abuse and do that proactively - i.e. it is upto the owner to prove why their site isn't abusing copyright. Webhosts get about £5/month for hosting a site and could get sued thousands. So they just pull the site.

www.fasthosts.com took down a site I complained about within 7 days.

We want the hypnotherapy orgs to be doing something proactive to raise standards and profile - they could post up information on how to protect copyright though!

Hope this helps
Mark

Thanks for the reply Mark.

This is pretty much how I deal with it now as well.
