|
|
Hello all,
Since little I always had the problem with confidence but it never became such a real problem till now, in my early 20s. In some situations I'm confident, in some others i'm not. I screwed up a lot! I'm thinking to try hypnotherapy but not sure where I can find the one that is reliable. Is there any UK council/organisation that I can find the details of the registered members somehow? I googled and found that there are quite a few organisations but not sure which one is the real/most reliable one. Saw in nhs a link to psychotherapy.org.uk which has details of some hypno-psychotherapist. Are they the same with hypno-therapists?
Oh, and could you guys give me a rough idea of how long it will take for my problem, what cost involved and will the effect be long term or temporary?
Thanks a lot for your advices. |

Hi Lina,
Welcome to the forum...

Yeah there are a few, but to be honest as the only thing you need is a hypnotherapy diploma and around £70 per year to join, unfortunatly these are not going to offer you the sorts of guarantees of good practice that you are more than likely after.
I recommend that you phone a number of therapists and have a chat with them on the phone. See who you feel most comfortable with.

Treatment times will be different for certain clients and therapists so it is hard to say. As a rough rule, I tend to see clients for around 6 sessions and my rate is £120 per hour, however there are therapists that are cheaper and of course more expensive.
Hope this helps!! |

Hello, thanks for your reply. I found this society called British society of Clinical Hypnosis which seems to be the most formal society. What is your opinion about this? Or this is just one among all other "associations"?
Oh, and will the effect be long term or temporary?
Thanks again for you information. |

Hi Lina
4-6 sessions should be typical - however confidence is simply a habitual way of thinking about ourselves and our effectiveness in the world so it is really a question of how quickly those habitual thoughts and beliefs can change.
I'd focus on a hypnotherapist who is helping you learn, experience and practice those new ways of thinking, feeling and acting - i.e. helping you learn new, positive, confidence-building habits - rather than trying to find the "root" cause of the problem by delving into your past.
At its core hypnotherapy is about installing a profound sense of self-belief - just the experience of knowing you can relax and go into hypnosis (and everyone can) is deeply affirming for many people.
Make sure your therapist gives you CDs and other exercises to do between sessions - then you'll move faster and become independant more quickly.
It should be educational skill-training as much as it is treatment. Then it will be permanent rather than temporary.
All the hypnotherapy organisations have a mish-mash of members - I'm on the committee of a new one: The Register for Evidence-Based Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (www.rebhp.org) which is really trying to raise standards and move hypnotherapy away from alternative medicine and back towards psychology and psychotherapy where it belongs (it was really the first specific psychotherapy in many ways) however we've only just launched and have a few members. You might find some useful information on the site though.
Hope this helps
Mark

| That depends. You don't know if anyone if reliable until you meet with them and have a conversation. If not, ask a friend maybe he knows of one.Or search the internet but you wouldn't know if he's reliable. |
