Hey guys...
Just a thought... If your hypnotherapy business fails - don't panic!
There is still plenty of money to be had!
You could start a Hypnotherapy organization. With the income that it could claim - its not to be sniffed at!
For instance - the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) say that they have over "7,000 individual Practitioners". With a membership fee for practitioners, thats £70 (if you pay be standing order) that means an estimated turnover of potentially £490,000.00. Thats a little more than a pretty penny!
The NCH say that they "currently represent over 1000 practitioners". At £65 (if you pay be standing order) that means their estimated turnover could be £65,000.
Maybe the NCH could learn something from the GHR?
What happens to all that money? In the GHR's case certainly not on answering phone calls as I see that they have removed their phone number from their site.
But then again they must just be really busy as when you do call the number that used to be on the site you just get an engaged tone. Maybe they know that its me calling
Thoughts..? |

One thing I've noticed is that the GHR does seem to get very involved with various issues surrounding hypnotherapy, in particular its regulation.
According to Mark Davis, "the only professional hypnotherapy organisation registering as a Stakeholder [of NICE] was the GHR. Not the NCH nor anyone else."
This was a discussion of smoking, so I don't know if the comment was limited to that.

Ha!
Yes I did say that.
But GHR didn't do ANYTHING apart from register as a stakeholder.
Moreover neither GHR nor NCH know anything about the UK National Smoking Cessation conference. Despite smoking cessation being the bread and butter (or jam?) for many hypnotherapists.
GHR has about 1,300 members I believe (not 7,000).
NCH has about 1,500 members but I think 700 are students (so don't pay). You can download the NCH annual accounts and see where they spent the money (they are a proper association/not-for-profit).
GHR is a private business I believe. I don't think William Broom publishes his accounts.
Now if you do want a register that is going to do something - take a look at www.rebhp.org - The Register for Evidence-Based Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy. Don Robertson has set this up - with help from myself and others - to raise standards in the industry and move hypnotherapy over towards mainstream psychology/psychotherapy and away from complementary medicine.
Currently it's a private venture but the plans are to make it an Association (with proper mem and arts) within a couple of years (because it costs money and is a lot of work/procedures).
