There have been similar stories for a long time regarding the application of various pain killers and medications used to put patients out in any kind of medical procedure. Although you are putting yourself under in hypnosis it is really no different than going out for any kind of surgery and it basically boils down to doctor-patient trust.
I wouldn't let this kind of story sour anyone on hypnotherapy as a legitimate form of therapy. |

You're right that this could be done by any of doctor. I just find it despicable that someone would take advantage of their position and do something such as this. I am sure this is in no way the norm though. You're right in that you really need to trust, know and research any doctor before any type of procedure. Not that there would be red flags for sure but it is better to check then not to check.

Yeah I know what you mean. A checking system really would be ideal but after thinking about it there could almost be a (not entirely effective) checking in place by whether doctors get surrounded in controversy or not. You would think that if people came forward with this kind of information it would be easy to know which doctors aren't trustworthy.

how about a relative of patient being present when the hypnosis is being carried out, or still better the video recording of the whole procedure be made mandatory?

I think that is a great idea. That would put a stop to something like this happening. They sure would think twice before doing it that's for sure.

Having a relative present could interfere with the process, especially as the hypnotherapist usually deals with confidential issues.
The client would have to give permission to have the recording made. Then, there's the problem of storing all these recordings. And then doing so in a way that they could be easily retrieved, and kept safe from theft or loss.
Imagine a thief getting hold of all those recordings and making them public!
