The article is interesting in that is is wholly negative and focusses mainly on the relaxation aspect of hypnosis or the reception of suggestions as if they are completely separate aspects.
The question in my mind is how do different hypnotherapists approach the subject of weight loss? Do they focus simply on eating habits? Or do they approach a much larger picture of lifestyle and background for each individual? Do they work with a script that is one-size-fits-all for weight loss?
Is food really the problem?
Frankly, I wouldn't be taking anyone seriously if they tried to hypnotise me with a glitter ball!
I would have taken the article more seriously if they had balanced the report by describing the experience of at least one person who had a positive experience and why they thought that was. Hardly objective reporting, I think.
Occasionally, my cynical side pops in and asks whether Dr Don Beal feels the need for 'more traditional methods' simply because they take longer and he gains more fees that way providing him with financial stability? |
