Hi everyone,
I've a question about visualising, or a problem i'm having whilst trying to do various exercises.
Some of the exercises i visualise, I alway see myself failing - cocking up. It's like I can visualise failure easier than success.
Does anyone have any advice how I can get around this, it's beginning to annoy me slightly.
Thanks
James |

I'm not a therapist of any kind (heck I'm only 20!) but I have a friend who had the same problem as yours and I just told her to just keep fighting the fight and if you cock up-- who cares? Cock ups can be fun (but success is a very big bonus!), just chalk it up to some character building and it actually worked for her-- she's less scared to take chances now, getting all ready for an externship in another country and all! |

Hello James,
I want you to try two things.
1. Try to visualise positively while in Hypnosis. Possibly use a tape or CD rather than doing self hypnosis at first.
2. Reframe your negatives! Once I was driving down the motorway when somebody very dangeriously cut me up and nearly caused me to crash. I was feeling very angery at this point. Ater a while my passanger said, 'maybe his wife is ill or his son has had an accident' - this 'refraiming' instantly allowed me to feel calm and allowed me to enjoy me weekend and forget about the incident.
Hope this helps! |

James, when that happens, ask yourself:
"If I could see myself doing what I want, how would it look?"
When you have an answer, then ask yourself;
"If someone else who looked like me and sounded like me were doing well, what would he be doing?"
That's only the start. Let me know what happens.

I have really taken visualisation on board and have seen the benefits from it.
I used visualisation in my last childbirth (my third) and if you can actually say childbirth was enjoyabe it was in this case! |

James,
First of all you need to be sure that the things your trying to 'Do' have ever been done before, meaning that they are humanly possible?
Are these things that you have ever done before?

Gandalf you made me laugh! i pictured james trying to scale a building like superman or something!
My favourite is managing my breathing and visualising sitting on the beach watching the waves roll in and out and breathing along with the waves, very affective and calming in any situation. |

You would be suprised!
This isn't related but reminds me of my friends brothers, one of them thought he was 'Blue Beard' (Very OLd Pirate Film) and hung himself from the lightshades (It was probably was a good thing it broke, although afterwards he said, hanging might have been a lucky escape after his Father got hold of him, he couldn't sit for a week) and his other brother jumped out of his bedroom window breaking his arm and cracking three ribs... He thought that when he wore his superman PJ's he was superman!
Im not suggesting that this is what I meant with my question to James. Its just a good question to help things process, but yes, I am very funny |

It sound like your friend has a whacky family
All i can say to james is that it takes practice, think of a scene and start to bring it to life the sights, smells, sounds soon enough you will master it and begin to see the benefits from visualisation. |
