Hypnosis relieves pain and stress for kids in the O.R.

California researchers say hypnosis can decrease pain and stress of frightening, painful or humiliating medical tests in children. The research analyzed 44 children. Doctors inserted a catheter into the bladder, injected a dye and had children urinate while being X-rayed. The use of hypnosis reduced the duration from an average of 50 minutes down to 35 minutes. Children did not report less distress. Their parents and healthcare providers said they cried less and were easier to prep for the procedure.
