If I knew it would be the last time
that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything right.
There will always be another day
to say our "I love you's",
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget,
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight..
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear,
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me,"
"thank you" or "it's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today

Aaaw see, now you made me cry with that.
What beautiful words, and oh how true they really are. Thankyou for sharing them with us, but Grrrrr, for making me cry, although in a good way.
I lost my mum earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to be constantly with her for a few days before, and when she passed, and all I could think while I was with her was that there were so many things I wanted to tell her, but was now not able to, so many things we'd never do together again.
I did get the chance to hold her, tell her how much I loved her and how much I would miss her, just before she died and that helped me a bit with my grief.
So I say to everyone, let the people that you love, know how much you care, heed those words and act on them, because sometimes tomorrow comes and it's too late to tell them how you feel. |

I KNEW by this subject line that I'd end up in tears if I'd open the post and ... should have listened to my intuition. Yes, I've heard this one before and Garth Brooks also has a song by this name that was popular 8 or 10 years ago.
Do you think reading/hearing things like this actually helps people to change the way they do things, or is it just like "aw, that's nice" and then nothing changes? |

| This is really nice, and I often get a lot of emails similar to these sent to me, I think at the time they touch you and you think about your loved ones etc. Though I hate to say it I think after it has been read and you continue your day to day activities its then forgotten about and maybe changes that you felt at the time to make then disappear though I could be wrong as I guess everyone is different. |

I'm not so sure about that, princess2008... I think that maybe people are more alike than different. I think most people *will* go on with their day with that "aw, that's sad, but it's not me" attitude and then when something comes up in their own life, they remember these poems and songs and get even more sad.
The factor that's missing and no one remembers is that if they *had* called everyone they know to say "I love you" every day, the sadness would still be the same, it's the *guilt* that would be lessened but maybe just by a little bit. |

| Thank you for sharing that poem. The words are so true. Just wish you could carry them with you at all times to always be reminded of this. I really think I am going to print this out and laminate it for my fridge. |
