When people around you are stuck in a rut, it can be downright depressing. One way to shift their thinking from inside the narrow restrictive box out into realm of creativity is to say something that's so outside their pattern of thought that it pleases and surprises them.
For example: This story was being related to me by a friend for the umpteenth time:
My dog keeps crawling under the bed and peeing right in the middle where I can't reach her. I'm just about ready to kill her. My other dog never had accidents in the house. It wouldn't be that big a deal, if she'd just pick some place where it was easier to clean up.
What you is a box. You can put the dog in the box and the box under the bed. Soon the dog won't want to go under the bed any more.
That's a good idea, but her kennel won't fit.
I was thinking more in terms of a cardboard box and packing tape. If it didn't work, you could always mail her to someone else.
Giggle. Giggle. Giggle. Maybe I could just borrow a smaller kennel from my friend and put it under the bed. |

So very true. It is a simple fact that attitudes can be contagious. Being around people who are "stuck in a rut" can bring you down. But you have to remember that it works the same way for positive attitudes as it does negative attitudes.
I always try hard to keep a positive attitude how others are around me. Sometimes this pays off and you recieve what you put in, but sometime it doesn't. Even if it doesn't I still have the satisfaction of knowing I did the right thing.
That satisfaction is always enough to keep me positive despite the attitudes of those around me. |

Here's something that worked well for me.
"People warm to warm people." (Coachville, A Course About People)
When you act warm - sincerely warm, that is, taking a genuine interest in others - then you become warm.
Not only is that infectious to others around you, but also it bounces back on yourself!
I've found that it works even on sour, unhappy people.

I have found this to be true also. Even if someone really doesn't care for you at first, that old addage "kill em with kindness" truly does work wonders. |

| The example given by Paddy is also working for me and I am sure it will work for everyone. |

Hi!
Thinking positive can work wonders but it can wear us down too. For instance, I've been asked why I have this can do attitude, I replied that I must have enough confidence for me and my team.
Although I said that in a positive light, it belies the fact that most people have difficulty in seeing the bright side of things, they are always belittling themselves. And I've been sorely tempted several times to get into a rut with them. |
