Reframing meaning can be a very valuable NLP technique. And it really works!

For example, for a while I taught an English speaking course in Asia. Most of the education had been based on memorizing information word for word. This posed a major problem no one in my free-speaking class wanted to speak for fear of committing an error, and hence failing. After a week of struggling, I decided to reframe their definition of failure.

The new definition: failure to speak and experiment. Everyone's name was listed on the board, anyone who failed to make at least three mistakes in the 90 minute class was obviously not speaking enough and would lose a point off their participation grade. I literally could not shut them up.
