Keeping notes - how do you keep them?

How do you keep client notes? And how do you keep them safe?

We have a tremendous responsibility towards our clients, and part of that is confidentiality.

In the UK, if you keep client notes on computer (even a PDA), you have to register with the Data Protection Act and follow strict rules about what you do with them.

I keep my notes on computer. However, they are all encrypted (not just password-protected, which is easy to crack). When I make backups, the backups are kept off-site and are highly encrypted, too.

Any paper notes, taken during the session, are shredded (not just thrown away) as soon as I've transcribed them to computer.

How do you store your notes?

I personally keep them on paper only. I lock them in a filing cabinet, which is in a locked room. I guess I am old fashioned and don't fully trust computers!
