Has anyone tried self-hypnosis before? Either through books or tapes/CDs? And have you had any success?

I've looked into it but I'm afraid to pay out if they're no good value for money.

I don't know if what I do sometimes is hypnosis. I close my eyes, relax myself and breathe deeply. After a while, I feel like I'm floating and there are times when my hands just float up on their own without my moving them. It feels like a bubble's pushing my hands upward.

By some definitions of hypnosis, definitely! Especially if your hands move of their own accord.

Seriously?? Wow! Your reply got me all excited! Razz I never even thought it could be self-hypnosis. I just use it when I really can't sleep. Razz I thought it was just some biological thing.

I never experienced anything like that. But i do feel like I am floating when i concentrate on breathing frequently with eyes closed. I feel lighter that time. But never went too extreme where my hands get lifted up on their own.

It helps to have someone else talk to you calmly the first time, just so you can get to that point. With practice, you can take yourself there and maybe even deeper.

it really does depend on what you want from self hypnosis, chances are there is at least one cd that would work for you,

i do agree that there are some total rip off cd's out there however if you steer clear if the "buy it now/ instant download" type on auction sites you should be ok,

try looking on that well known site named after a brazilian rainforest and read some reviews on a few and i'm sure you will find one or two you will benefit from

I've never tried it.I guess I'm pretty scared about this.Maybe because I don't really know how to get out of self hypnosis.

HI Josh

Remember, that in a state of hypnosis, whether induced by someone else, or whether self-induced, YOU always retain control of whether you are in this relaxed state or not.

So you can simply open your eyes when you decide to do so.

Have a go and let us know how you find it.

How can you get out of a self induced hypnosis trance? I'm afraid of getting trapped in my own hypno-trance.

No one can be "trapped" in hypnosis. Hypnosis is not some sort of magic; it's a naturally-occurring state.

While in self-hypnosis, you will be totally in control. For example, should the fire alarm suddenly ring, you will just as suddenly wake up and attend to the problem.

I don't believe in this, becouse I never tried it. Maybe some day, I will change my mind, but for now, I remain confident that hypnosis = bull.

I think self hypnosis is an extreme version basically of meditation. It is an art or "state" rather of relaxation where your body and mind are allowed to be open and free. I am not sure how that can be considered bull because it is a naturally occurring state that everyone goes through at some time or another most likely without even realizing it. When you relax and will your troubles to dissipate you have basically done a mild form of self- induced hypnosis.

I couldn't believe self hypnosis could be done till I read this thread. I guess it might be very difficult to be carried out as we are very conscious about what we are trying to do. I mean making your mind switches to another world while being conscious of it all the time is not an easy thing to do and not everyone can perform it. That's why we have professionals to help us out!

This sounds interesting just for the relaxation. I have so much trouble sleeping and spend most of my time stressed. Do you think that self hypnosis could help?
