Hi all
Has anyone been able to help a young person who self harms, has attempted suicide and has a alcohol problem? What would be the therapy of choice, EFT, Hypnotherapy, maybe some NLP, any suggestions welcome.
Know a bit about self harm but not much. Many thanks, Sue |

OK let me reply in two parts... First I will give a little information about self-harm, then I will talk a little about treatment.
Self-Harm
Self-Harm is a behavior that is usually a symptom of mild to severe mental health issues. Personally I have seen clients self-harm that suffer from depression, bulimia, anorexia and schizophrenia.
Some see it as am apt way to 'punish' themselves for doing or perceiving that they have done something wrong. Some people do it as it helps them to feel an 'escape'.
This is a sad statistic but a survey of young people carried out, found that 5% of boys and 8% of girls aged 13-15 said that they had, at some time, tried to harm, hurt or kill themselves.
Treatment
As a therapist of a person that reports feelings of harming themselves or others, I believe it to be good practice to refer that client immediately to their GP. Hypnotherapists, NLP and EFT practitioners are not qualified to handle these cases alone but will need to work as part of a team with other mental health professionals to give the client the best change of success.
Hope this helps... |
