Just out of interest...

What would you say if I said that Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy was just one big con?

A con that just makes the con-artists (hypnotists and hypnotherapists) rich.

comments please...

This reminds me of a joke, please excuse my grammer.

Mum shouting up stairs, "Come on Richard, your going to be late!"

Richard, "I'm not going to school, I hate it!"

Mum, Your going to be late for school, come on!"

Richard, "the kids hate me, the teachers hate me...No, im not going!"

Mum, " but you have to your the headmaster!"

-------

Seriously, I think your name gives it away... Hypnotherapist! D'oh!
-------

I think if this was 'QI' the alarm bells would be going off yes! Wink

Sorry, i'll be good Crying or Very sad

I suppose I would feel like a big dope. And then be angry at all the people who made me look like a fool. It would have to be some seriously strong evidence to convince me that it's a con, however.

Doesn't it boil to what is meant by 'con'???

Does that imply it doesn't work..if so, that would be easy to prove as you can find many people who have been helped by hypnotherapy.

Or does it imply something else like the state of hypnosis doesn't exist...I think there have been experiments to show it does exist and even if it doesn't it's splitting hairs because what we call 'hypnotherapy' clealy does get results..

Correct. Or, at least, the results of it (including changes in the brain, as shown by MRI scans).

So, I suppose it makes just as much sense as saying, "What would you say if I said that sports massage therapy was just one big con? A con that just makes the con-artists (sports massage therapists) rich."

Fantastic... What study was this?

I was looking for some research like this a while back.

Heck, I don't recall now. I read it on the news section of Yahoo.com some months back. I vaguely remember reading another article on the BBC website, but I'm not entirely sure whether it was the BBC.

I've also seen it in a video documentary; again, I don't remember which channel it was.

Next time, I'll bookmark the URL!

That would be fantastic. I don't suppose you remember any of the names of the researchers as this would help me search for the information.
