I am looking at depression as separate from recovery...

Depression bad - recovery good...

The sad fact is that each episode of depression increases the chances of relapse by 16%... This means to me that depression even after recovery can be bad for some.

There needs to be more work done on closing this gap of relapse. There was one promising piece of research done here in Oxford last year which showed very interesting results.

1 in 5 woman and 1 in 10 men will suffer major depression at some point in their lives... Many never recover and for some this unfortunate disorder can be terminal. I doubt that these people would see the positive side to depression.

I will try and find something online. The study was on meditation and was carried out by Mark Williams.
