Hey all,
Here is a topic that I hope will end up being a 'hot' one again.
Is evidence important? There have been many great debates on this forum over the past year, however they did tend to get really heated when evidence was requested for peoples (sometimes extraordinary) beliefs.
Why does this happen? Well as pointed out to me last night by a friend “The thing is, when you ask for evidence, it causes people some personal pain as they realise that their beliefs may be unfounded”. Interesting...
So where should the line on evidence based research be drawn?
What are your thoughts? |

It all depends really, I think that reading another persons findings may allow me to notice something that I might not have noticed before, however the stat machine is a collection of other peoples findings.. People wanting to grow and explore, will naturally ask questions.. on the other hand.. a forum of 'Professionals' can get a bit claustraphobic.. Sometimes to some people it can get quite territorial.. who has the biggest car.. website... whats your name.. etc..
For me this whole forum is a place for me to come to 'De-brief' (let off some steam) Thats why my name is Gandalf the white - thats why I dont put on my web address.. I'm not wanting to impress or impart my great wisdom on anyone... *Reading old posts....* I just want to chill out, bounce some ideas off people, If I learn something great, If I help someone great.. But lets face it - Its not going to change the taste of my coffee is it?
Getting back to your question...
Well you did ask me for my thoughts right?

| I think evidence is only possible when everything else is straightforward and objective. With matters like hypnosis, evidence is hard to produce. |
