Many of these things I have been doing for years. I always make it a point to compliment people on good service and I also make sure their superior knows, too. I have tried to teach this to my children as well. Most people only hear the complaints and it never fails to bring a smile to someone's face when you tell them you appreciate them.
As a young woman I learned the strength of a smile and that it got me much further along than belligerance. Always try to approach a problem with the other person's point of view in mind. "I wanted to talk to you about a problem I am having and I wanted to hear what your perspective on it is." This works especiallywell when dealing with the parents of children with whom your child is having a problem!

I love the article about kindess, and it's so true that when you think of
something kind to do and then follow through and do it, the universe just
bathes you in a glow of joy. It's really amazing! During the Christmas
holidays I had the idea of taking some baked goods as a gift to the local
library staff, but things got hectic and I didn't do the baking and get it
done. So I did it two weeks later. I left a platter with lots of blueberry
muffins on it and a card to the staff just thanking them for all they do and
telling them how much I appreciate them. I signed it and put my name on the
bottom of the platter so I could pick it up later. But somehow it felt
right to leave the platter without anyone seeing me. A week later I was
going to the library and so I asked if I could collect the platter. When
the librarians realized I had left the muffins, they lit up! They just
glowed and told me how very much they appreciated it, and what came through
was that they got the message I intended - that they matter and make a
difference.
This experience was a wonderful reminder of how very much you can do to
give joy - so easily. And the joy just washes back over you when you do.
I'll be handing out many more notes and goodies to folks I appreciate!
And I appreciate you!!
Thanks, Lesley |
