Dear Members,
Here is a great section with no posts! Where are all the Psychologists and Psychotherapists?
If you know of any, then invite them here today! |

| Yes, indeed this section needs some psychologist and psychotherapists. I would have to say that typing those two words at the same time is annoying. Anyway, I am neither of them but I have seen them in movies and T.V. shows. They are the ones that sit and talk to you correct? You are like in a chair facing them or laying down correct? |

The image of lying down with the psychiatrist facing away from you comes from the "traditional" Freudian version of psychiatry.
That approach is rapidly losing favour, not only because of its lengthy treatments but also because of its low levels of success.
Modern-day psychiatrists tend to work with the physical causes of emotional problems, looking at how the brain works and the effects (for example) of hormones. It has many promising avenues. For example, in certain cases, OCD has a chemical cause, easily treated with the appropriate drugs.
Psychologists and psychotherapists these days are more open-minded to new methods, especially when backed by research. They will tend to sit you in a chair and talk to you face-to-face. They might have learned hypnotherapy, NLP or a number of other supporting methods, and often give you some type of personality test.
Even doctors are learning new techniques. I used to have a superb doctor who also pacticed various complementary therapies, such as aromatherapy and hypnotherapy.
